Architectural approach.

From its very beginnings, the office Ludovic Schober Architectes has been committed to taking an active part in the development of its region. Contributing to the architecture of a given territory means transforming and renovating what already exists, as well as adding new buildings. This is why we engage in many kinds of projects, of varied functions and scales, both in private commissions and in competitions.

Our architecture is based on the art of sobriety — a deliberate renunciation of the extraordinary object that ignores its physical and cultural surroundings. The context thus becomes the starting point of every project, directly influencing it at every scale. This approach revives, without nostalgia, the tradition of a place in order to reinterpret its singularities with a contemporary sensibility. The architectural object is therefore no longer unique through the effect of surprise, but through its undeniable presence within its setting — a sense of eternal belonging.

This stance naturally gives rise to a humble architecture founded on an economy of means. Yet it does not preclude an elegant character, achieved through heightened attention to detail and the search for a materiality in keeping with the site. The quality of our projects also stems from a sensitive attention to the relationship between the individual and space — the development of physical experiences that offer a new perspective on the human scale within its context. Our architecture thus becomes part of a continuity with that context, lending it a lasting presence in all simplicity.

In conclusion, we believe that an architecture that endures over time is willing to enhance the territory by adding itself to it modestly. A subtle approach then allows a project to blend into a larger whole while still standing apart from it. To ensure this continuity over time, however, it is equally necessary to rethink the impact of architecture on everyday life.

The practice

Ludovic Schober Architectes is an architecture studio based in Sion, active throughout the Valais. The practice was founded in late 2016, following the competition won for the conversion into a nursing home and the extension of the former Sainte-Claire clinic in Sierre.

Ludovic Schober, founding architect, is a committee member of the SIA Valais section. He is also a committee member of the association Les Patrimoines de Martigny, which he chaired in 2025, and a branch commissioner for the vocational training of architectural draughtspersons.
