Crêperie Le Rustique
Buoyed by its success in Martigny, the crêperie Le Rustique opens a new chapter in 2022 and decides to set up in Sion as well. The choice of location is therefore strategic: while the chosen premises met all the criteria sought through their location, they remained too far from the hoped-for atmosphere — everything was still to be done.
Previously run by a bakery tea-room, this business was split into two disparate spaces: a deep, dark main area versus a veranda zone continually bathed in light. Managing the levels was problematic; the fragmented spaces, spread over several narrow platforms, made their layout critical. The kitchen, entirely independent of this system, broke with the intended philosophy and did not allow the host to interact with the guests.
The heterogeneous character of the context described is embraced and indeed becomes the main theme of the operation, which plays on this contrast. Le Rustique reinvents itself: the mood evoked by its name is reinterpreted and translated through the use of natural materials with raw surfaces, without however depriving them of their characteristic elegance.
The plan is animated by a central core that brings together several functions: preparing the crêpes with a view onto the entrance, access to the bar / back-kitchen area, and the integration of a bench on the dining-room side. The levels are simplified, generating two platforms that reinforce the singularity of the spaces and their atmospheres.
Nevertheless, the continuity of the floor finishes, the interior fittings and the acoustic skirting that wraps the space are all elements that seek to unify the intervention and give it a certain balance, favourable to the architectural expression of the volumes in contact with the light.
