Logements communautaires

Martigny · Housing · 2018-19

With the new emerging ways of living, new forms of housing are surfacing. The community housing of the Differ'ensemble association fits into this new language by putting forward a collective living model with a typology that reconciles private and shared spaces, the latter serving several apartments at once. The project combines various spaces intended to foster cohabitation between residents, travellers and occasional visitors.

The complex is thus formed of several building bodies that house the private parts of the programme, while the shared rooms are located in an open space developed between these entities. The building seeks to establish a relationship with its context by opening onto it through large openings on the ground floor as well as through the terraces linking the volumes. The object sits discreetly in its environment, which is why it deliberately does not overlook the surrounding vegetation.

One of the major characteristics of community life is its capacity to bring together different ways of living, and therefore various personal experiences, that unfold in the same space and time. The dwelling must therefore bring a certain flexibility and be able to provide living spaces that facilitate their appropriation by the inhabitants. Thus the project adopts a sober materiality that serves as a canvas for varied uses. Nevertheless, the surfaces are treated with a richness that produces a warm atmosphere for its ephemeral users.

In conclusion, this project opens onto contemporary questions related to the new domestic ways of living that are appearing. Through its particular configuration, it also becomes an opportunity to bring generosity to housing.
